What is a closet edit?
So, you’re wondering what a ‘closet edit’ is and why you should get a specialist to help you with your closet? Well, you’re not alone. It’s not as complicated as it sounds - it is a process to cull items that you don’t wear regularly and that don’t fit with your personal style. It is a way to better arrange everything in your closet so that you understand what pieces work best together and to make getting dressed really easy. A closet edit is also a good starting point for deciding what additional pieces you need to add to your wardrobe and ensuring everything fits well so you look and feel great.
A lot of people I talk to don’t necessarily associate having an organized closet with how they get dressed. If you have a closet that is overflowing with items that you never (or rarely) wear, or pieces that don’t fit your body or your current lifestyle, it is hard to know what you have, what you need to buy and what you should wear.
Cleaning out your closet can be overwhelming. To be completely honest, cleaning out my own closet is a little overwhelming for me. That’s why it is so helpful to have an external person (e.g. a personal stylist) help. First of all, it takes the emotion out of parting with your belongings and it is also a great way to create new looks with older clothes.
Fortunately, it is a surprisingly quick process - a lot can be achieved in 2 hours (for the average closet - if you have a big closet or it is very full, it might take longer) - and then the fun part starts: creating your new style with your existing clothes and shopping for new pieces to complete your wardrobe!
