Dress sustainably: send your love to Mother Earth

Sustainable fashion is en vogue. Celebrities and royals are doing it. Award dress codes and fashion weeks are demanding repeated gowns and sustainability commitments.

So this month, I’m focusing on how the average person can dress more sustainably.

What does dressing sustainably mean, exactly? It is kind of like fashion, it can mean something different to every person. To me, it means being an educated consumer. I want to preserve our planet for future generations. I want my kids to be able to put their toes in the sand, to drink the water, to ski on the snow, to hike in the forests…

So, I try my best to support companies that are doing their best to maximize and recycle our precious resources.

What can you expect to hear from me this month? Lots of things all focused on dressing sustainably. I’ll post on my instagram about cool, sustainable, fashion-related things that I see when I’m out and about.

I will share brands that are doing their best to be sustainable — from shoes to hats, I’ll share brands that I buy and love (or want to try) — not brands that are paying me to post about them. I will also share ways to participate in the sharing economy to make the most of your wardrobe.

I will share about how to recycle and how to upcycle your clothes. AND, I’ll be partnering with my friend and fellow stylist, Jess Dreyfus, to run a Shop Your Closet Challenge. For this challenge, we invite you to stop shopping for clothes during the month of February. Wear what you have in your closet or choose 20 pieces from your closet and only wear those pieces during the month. The challenge starts February 10, is open to anyone and there will be cool, sustainable prizes for those who participate in the whole challenge (from February 10-29)!

I invite you to join our challenge and to share with me the ways that you dress sustainably! Let’s show our love for preserving Mother Earth together.
