Sales shopping strategy
Today I’m sharing my sales shopping strategy — since this year most of us are shopping online instead of in-person, most of these tips are directed toward online shopping. We all love to save money while still buying quality clothes...but many of us can get carried away -- buying pieces that we don’t need, that don’t suit us or don’t fit into our lifestyle. So before you start frantically shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (starts this week!), here are my tips for making the most of this (or any) sale:
Assess what you already have. Yes, this means it is time to tackle your closet (if this feels overwhelming, I can help you remotely in as little as an hour!). This doesn’t mean you have to do a full closet cleanout, but it is worth reviewing your current clothes to identify anything that should be removed or find those gems that you love but don’t wear often.
Make a list. Just like shopping at the grocery store, shopping for clothes is much more productive if you have a list. Not sure what you need or how to create this list? This is where a stylist can help -- cover the basics first (check out this post if you need a refresh on basics/staples) and then add in the fun pieces that make your style shine!
Shop decisively. Once you know what you need and have a list to guide you, don’t just add items to your cart -- buy the items! This strategy is effective especially if you wear a popular size -- sale items don’t last long. For retailers like Nordstrom, that make returns super easy, it is better to buy it and send it back if it doesn’t work than to wish you had something that you really need (or have to pay full price for it later!). If you don’t have time to shop for yourself, I can help!
