[Sustainably] walk this way. Plus, a call to donate your shoes!

I love shoes. They can change a look in a million different ways (good and bad). I love finding good shoes that will last and that are well made.

These days, shoe companies are doing some pretty cool things (perhaps leading the way?) with recycled materials, circular fashion models (that reuse and recycle materials and products) and working conditions for producers.

Below are a few of the shoe brands doing their best to produce well-made, good looking shoes, without comprising the environment (organized by purpose/use). I think there is a little something for everyone here, but the list does lean a little toward California casual, with prices that won’t break the bank. Please note: this list is NOT exhaustive. It is based on my own experience and light research. Are there brands I’m missing? Tell me below!

Additionally, I’m running a shoe drive for the second half of February! I will be collecting used shoes to donate to Soles4Souls. Send me an email to donate your used shoes.

  • Sneakers (men’s, women’s, some kids): Greats (most are handmade in Italy and worth every penny, in my opinion! They have a line of recycled shoes called ‘knits’.), Vivobarefoot (also see, hiking), Thousandfell, All Birds (‘world’s most comfortable shoe’, and Nothing New (shout out to my husband for telling me about them!)

  • Women’s (work + play): Rothy’s (also has kids and these shoes are machine washable! I have a pair and love them - I want more!) and All Birds have flats in addition to sneakers!

  • Chic (men’s + women’s): Nisolo (the shoes are GORGEOUS)

  • Hiking and trail running: Vivobarefoot (I don’t have a pair but next time I buy hiking shoes, I’m going to start here)

  • Travel: Suavs (don’t have a pair of these either but if I had more travel in my life, I would start here)
