Working with a virtual stylist

Life is slowly returning to ‘normal’ but lots of things are still not the same and won’t be for a while. It is likely that our new normal will include a lot less travel, a lot more video meetings and a lot more working at home. This is a major life transition and our clothes should support, not hinder, our positive vibes during this time.

Thanks to the internet, I still have access to my clients and the products from stores I love. Today I want to share more about how it works to work with me virtually (I also spoke about building a virtual styling business at the Glamhive LIVE Style Summit on May 9 -- the recorded content is now available here!).

I’ve actually been working as a virtual stylist for a while. I worked briefly with a big box subscription styling service but really missed working one on one with my clients. With Tailored Stylist, I have been able to keep my clients all over the world — some of my clients I’ve never even met in person!

So, what’s it like to work with me virtually? It’s very similar to working with me IRL just without the coffee and snacks! We will chat via video, text and email. I’ll ask lots of questions, listen closely to your answers, learn about you, your style, your goals and what’s currently in your closet. All of my styling services are available virtually — some services require a little extra homework — for example, via video call, I can't donate your unwanted clothes for you! But everything is totally doable and just as rewarding (for you and me!). I do my best to make it as easy, approachable and fun!

Here’s what you can expect when working with me virtually:

  • Lots of communication! Video, text, email — you tell me how you like to communicate and that’s what we’ll do. I strive to respond as quickly and thoughtfully as possible.

  • A structured way to clean out your closet. Yep, I don’t like the ‘pull everything out of your closet’ method. It is overwhelming even for me! I like to work in sections (IRL and virtually).

  • Lots of lists and talk about your future and your goals. Because your style should support your goals, support your confidence and make you feel great. And having a shopping list for clothes is just as critical as a grocery shopping list.

  • A focus on wearing what you already own + sustainability. Sometimes it just takes an external eye to remind us (even me!) that we have fabulous pieces in our closet just waiting to be worn. Or waiting to be tailored or repaired and then be worn.

  • A simplified shopping experience. A shoppable lookbook (see image above) that you can shop yourself or that I can shop and send to you in one box (instead of individual deliveries). We curate this board until you’re satisfied, then start shopping — avoiding lots of returns and unwanted purchases.

  • Style tips for your wearing existing and new clothes. How to create outfits, ‘uniforms’ for the coming season, and tips for elevating your style.

  • Lots and lots of laughs, positive vibes and fun. Because clothes can and should be fun!

Are you excited to get started? Book a virtual style consult (for free!) with me and we’ll figure out what you need to feel confident in our new normal.
