Planning for family photos

It is about this time of year that we start thinking about the holidays -- travel plans, gifts and holiday cards. One of the best ways to avoid stress during the holiday season is to take care of things ahead of time -- starting with family photos.

Many American families choose to have professional photos taken during the autumn months to not only document another year, but also to feature on holiday cards. For many of my clients, deciding where to go and what to wear (for not just yourself, but the whole family) can be very stressful and time consuming. The good news is that a personal stylist can help take the stress out of family photos!

In as little as an hour, I will work with you to determine a location (if you don’t have one) and an inspirational theme. Then we’ll shop your closet (or online or stores) to find you an outfit that will make you look and feel fabulous! Plus, we’ll shop and plan for the rest of the family so that the end results are cohesive, gorgeous photos that will last a lifetime.

Here are my tips for styling family photos:

  1. Choose a theme that can guide your decision making.

  2. Schedule a time for the photos (whether you work with a professional photographer or not).

  3. Plan your outfits in advance, using the theme to inform everyone’s outfit, and make sure everything is clean and pressed before picture day!

  4. Make a list of the shots you want and share it with your partner and photographer so everyone can help make sure the photos are taken.

  5. Be yourself! Relax, bring snacks and enjoy these moments with your family.
