Be a citizen, not a consumer
The second event in my Reclaim Your Style + Book Series was amazing — a great group of women who were genuinely interested in doing better for the planet, starting in their closets. Below I share three takeaways from our chat with circularity expert Nellie Cohen that anyone can apply to her closet!
Takeaway #1: Be a citizen, not a consumer – let’s not consume for the sake of consuming. When we are mindful and intentional about what we buy, wear, eat, etc, the flow-on effect is much greater, not only for ourselves but our families and communities.
Takeaway #2: Buy the thing that you really love – make sure the clothes you buy are pieces that you REALLY love. If it isn’t perfect in fit or function, don’t buy it. The perfect item is something you’ll treasure, use, wear, and love for a loooooong time.
Takeaway #3: Know your value system (and your personal style) – take the time to articulate your values (and/or your personal style – Nellie’s words, not mine!). Understanding your style and how it changes over time will help you buy and wear clothes that reflect your best self.
