An Attitude of Gratitude in Your Closet
I had an important work meeting coming up. As a stylist, I immediately started thinking about what I should wear to the meeting. A look that is current and youthful, while respectful and polished. While these words are not outside the structure of my personal style summary (playful, chic, and sustainable), I started to wonder if I needed to go shopping…
However, if I have learned one thing over the years of helping women curate their wardrobes – stress shopping for an event (whether work or fun), is generally something to be avoided. It leads to impulse purchases and pieces that are not cohesive with the rest of one’s wardrobe.
So, I paused. I thought about my own closet. I wandered through it a few times, perusing the clothes I already own.
Could I style the perfect outfit based on what is in my closet? Yes, quite a few ‘perfect’ outfits, in fact.
This thinking led me to feel grateful. Grateful for a closet that can flex with my evolving business – sometimes I work alone at home all day and sometimes I present to 80+ people and most days I’m somewhere in between. To have a closet of clothes that helps me dress to feel my best in so many situations is something to be grateful for.
Gratitude has a magical way of helping us see the value in things, people, places, experiences and so much more. After finding the perfect outfit and saving so much time stressing about what to wear (and/or shopping for clothes I wouldn’t wear often), I decided to embrace this gratitude practice.
For the month of November, I’m challenging myself (and you!) to cultivate this attitude of gratitude toward clothes. Each day on Instagram, I’ll be sharing something that I’m grateful for, as it relates to my clothing. I hope you’ll join me by sharing in the comments or sending me a message!
